The series previously known as the Koni Challenge is now the Continental Tires Challenge, the main production sports car racing series in the country. In qualifying for the Grand Am race at Daytona on Friday, Derek Whitis set fastest lap time in the ST class, driving his Freedom Autosports MX-5. Grand Am ST is one of the most competitive categories in American motorsports, and there are about 42 cars in the class. Derek is a buddy of Mark and Maria, and got his start in motorsports in 2004, on track at Sebring with Chin Motorsports. At that time, he was driving a 4-dr AMG Benz sedan... Derek, you've come a long way, baby!

Right you are, David... yes, pretty much every Bimmerworld driver is a Chin member.

In the Friday race, 12 drivers in 2 classes get to the podium. 6 of the 12 are Chin Motorsports drivers, including the OA winners, Rum Bum (see separate post...).

I believe David White and James Clay started third for Bimmerworld. They were out after being hit in the rear. Seth Thomas finished second. I know James is a Chin guy, not sure about the other two.
